- These tips can help you optimize the performance of Mosaic for your system.

- <P><B>To load documents faster:</B>

- <P><LI>From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
- <P><LI>Choose the Display panel, if necessary.
- <P><LI>Unselect the Load Images Automatically option.

- <P>Documents are loaded without images. To load a missing image, place the mouse
- pointer over the missing image, click the right mouse button, and choose Load
- Missing Image from the pop-up menu. To load all missing images, choose <A
- NAME="LOAD_MISSING_IMAGES">Load Missing Images</A> from the Navigate menu.

- <A NAME="MULTIPLE"><B>To load images faster:</B></A>

- <P><LI>From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
- <P><LI>Choose the Miscellaneous panel, if necessary.
- <P><LI>Select the Use Multiple Connections option.
- <P>Up to five simultaneous network connections are used to load images.

- <P><A NAME="PROGRESSIVE_IMAGES"><B>To display images faster:</B></A>

- <P><LI>From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
- <P><LI>Choose the Display panel, if necessary.
- <P><LI>Select the Display Images Progressively option.
- <P>Images in documents that specify the size of inline images will be displayed as
- they are loaded.
- <P>To display all inline images progressively, including those without specified
- sizes, select the Reformat After Each Image option.
- <P><LI>Choose the OK button.

- <P><A NAME="CACHE"><B>To load previously loaded files faster:</B></A>

- <P><LI>From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
- <P><LI>Choose the Cache panel, if necessary.
- <P><LI>In the Cache Size Limit field, specify the amount of disk space in
- kilobytes reserved for cached files. The default cache size is 2048 KB.

- <P><LI>From the Verify Cache menu, select one of the following options to
- determine how often network documents are checked for revisions:

- <TD VALIGN="TOP">Load cached documents without checking server for newer

- version only once during the time you start
